TCR-TP ASPHALT

BOOTH NO : I7

Category : Manufacturing Technologies

The conventional mixture in Malaysia often had issues in severe distress such as rutting, fatigue and moisture damage cause increase of maintenance activity and reduce the pavement service life. Thus, additive into the conventional mixture is an approach to improve its performance. However, the crumb rubber and plastic mixture susceptible to severe damage such as fatigue and moisture damage. Eventually, these issues had motivated to treat waste crumb rubber and waste plastic additives called TCR and TP, respectively. Therefore, this invention found that the combination of TCR and TP provided a superior mixture performance better than individual performance of TCR and TP mixtures with 50% TCR and 50% TP. Hence, this effort is not only in line with the adoption of sustainable pavement, but also increase the road pavement performance and reduce the maintenance activity. An adequate mixture design provides a safe, economic and sustainable road condition to society or road users.
Statistics in Malaysia shows that the allocated cost of road maintenance was over one hundred million per year by the government due to increases in traffic volumes and loads contribute to pavement distress in the conventional mixture and expensive maintenance activity. Additive such as crumb rubber and plastic is an approach to reduce the issues. Increasing of initial cost of road construction due to mixture modification, the waste materials as additive had focused. Although, crumb rubber and plastic mixtures showed significant improvements, both mixtures have vulnerabilities to fatigue cracking and moisture damage when using the dry process. The combination of rubber and plastic also prone to moisture damage and rutting. Hence, the appropriate mix design for the combination of rubber-plastic is still being questioned. Besides that, the increasing environmental issues such a worrisome due to improper waste management of rubber and plastic at landfill.
Road pavement with combined treated crumb rubber and plastic utilization for hot mix asphalt application.
The use of waste materials into road application address the environmental issues.
An adequate mix design provide a safe and convenient road surface.
Awareness through publication, knowledge transfer, exhibition and social media.
Reduce improper waste management at landfill, by reducing the amount of waste materials.
Enhance the activity of recycle of waste materials.
Produce promising performance of road pavement.
More economic and easy to apply at plant.
Usually, the initial cost of road pavement increased when involving mixture modification using additive. Eventually, the use of waste material as additive, reduce the increasing of initial cost of road pavement modification.
Other commercial additive product and other modifier product.
