Mastery of speaking skills in Tamil language had been unsatisfactory among Indian students in national primary schools. Admist the advancement and widely application of technology tools to promote language learning, there are limited mobile application and systematic learning approach to enhance students speaking skills in Tamil language. To address this gap, a teaching module which incorporates storytelling mobile application was developed. The mobile application entails attractive features and game-based learning that engage students in learning. learning activities. The teaching module encompasses a comprehensive instructional guidebook which facilitates teacher in using the application in their daily routine and evaluating students learning progress.
Tamil language is the mother tongue and communicative language of most Indians in Malaysia. In national primary schools, Tamil is offered as a second language. There is a degradation in using Tamil language among Indians in Malaysia. As a result of Malay language as medium of instruction, students are exhibiting difficulties in acquirement of Tamil language. Speaking plays a significant role in language acquisition. It is used as a medium to express and exchanging thoughts through verbal language. Nevertheless, the application of language in oral communication is impeded by a few factors. Past research attributed difficulties in language learning as speaking, anxiety, learners autonomy and limited technological learning aids. To address the issues, a Tamil language teaching module which incorporates the use of mobile application was developed to improve Tamil language teachers instructional skills and students speaking skills.
Malaysia is home to around two million Tamil people ethnically from Tamil Nadu, India, and Sri Lanka (Joshua Project, 2019).
Students from Tamil-speaking backgrounds displayed low Tamil speaking abilities when Tamil is taught as an elective academic subject. Speaking in mother-tongue builds children's self-esteem and their personal, cultural, and social identities.
Market size is big for Tamil language. Not only in Malaysia but all over the world. (India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, United States, Singapore, South Africa, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and et)
