HYBRID LEARNING PACKAGE IN PREPARING CANDIDATES FOR MUET

BOOTH NO : E2

Category : Education & Human Development

The abundance of MUET books available in the market shows that there is a demand for its publications. The books come in the form of textbook (input and tasks/practices), workbook (practices only) and sample of past year MUET questions. Some come with external audio recorded listening scripts that are made available using QR code. These common approaches of simply using textbooks to train for MUET become monotonous and do not fulfill the demands of 21st century learning. Hence, the Ace-in-MUET was designed to address this gap. This product consists of a printed module and online MUET-like practices that are made available on MyLinE website. The printed module prepares students with the skills needed specifically in answering the test in addition to scoring tips by experts while the microsite acts as an extension to more self-access practices. These practices not only provide intensive preparation for students but also appeal to the millennials who prefer 21st century learning.
The two types of MUET books in the market are workbooks and textbooks which are usually available in printed medium limits students' options to study or revise. In meeting the 21st century learning demands, such a traditional approach appears monotonous and uninteresting to test takers. In addition, the availability of online practices is so scarce that even international publishers provide only listening resources on top of their books (i.e., National Geographics, Oxford). Thus, with the implementation of a hybrid learning package combining a printed module and MUET-like online practices in MyLinE for all four skills, can definitely be considered a novel innovation. Because of its novelty, Malaysian Examination Council (MEC) came on board to support this innovation which has led to partnerships with private universities and industrial collaboration.
